War Horse - Review and Giveaway

I'm trying really hard to separate our weekdays from our weekends.

Make sense?

One of the best ways to really do this is to relax with a great movie.

Last Saturday night we stayed in and watch War Horse.

Both Rod and I had mixed emotions about this one.

It had a really really slow start.

After about 10 minutes we were almost going to switched it off.

But with nothing better to do, we hung in there.

Glad we did.  Overall it was a really good movie.

Well besides the slow start of course.

I am a sucker for a war movie, I get emotional every time, thinking about people going off to fight at war. I can't ever truly begin to imagine the fear that they would have experienced, or the sense of hopelessness that is present as a bunch of men run into a field of death.

Breaks my heart.

But this movie is something more than that, it's about the relationship between a boy and horse, a relationship that no one else can compare.

The horse is extraordinary, a sixth sense if you will to find his way home (to his owner).

A great movie, well worth a watch.

Caution: There is one scene in this movie that I found really graphic.  It's powerful, but to some, animal activists, it might be too overwhelming to watch.

I've got 2 copies of War Horse to giveaway.

To enter simply leave a message telling me why you'd like to win.
Open to Australian Residents Only
Giveaway closes Saturday 28th April at midnight.

Good luck.

  3. My husband wouldn't take me to the movies to see this film!! So if I win I would watch it over and over and over again.. so he will eventually have to sit down and watch it with me!

  4. Any movie by Spielberg tends to be worth watching. I haven't seen this one though, considering its length and it was on in the school holidays when Miss Five friendly flicks took priority. I'd love to win it on DVD and take my time watching.

  5. Hi, I would like to win this dvd as I usually love reading books at night once I've put the kids to bed, but at the moment I have nothing interesting to read and I can't bring myself to watch drivel like Dancing With The Stars, or any of those other rubbish shows. So I'd love this just to provide me with a bit of entertainment when I get my 'me' time. Please don't make me sit through any more reality tv!!! :)

  6. I'd love to win this DVD to see how the War was throught he animals point of view. I don't think animals get enough credit for the contributions they make

  7. I love the concept of separating weekday busy-ness from weekend relaxation but now that we have weekend sport and training to contend with that just doesn't happen around here. I love a night where the kids are in bed at a decent hour and I can curl up on the couch and watch a movie!

  9. With Anzac Day not far away
I've been thinking of what it was like at war each day
My local shops have Vets selling badges to remind us to remember
and honestly I would love to learn more about the wars a bit better.
    I want to be happy
    with the victory's.
But I also want to cry
    when the soldiers die.
I want to hear the story of animals and their bonds with the soldiers
and this movie could help me understand their story's better.

  12. Hubby's new business was impacted greatly by the Brisbane floods and the continuing heavy rain spells Brisbane has experienced in recent months. He is up at 1am and home around dinner time 3 times a week for various farmers markets and working his butt off the remainder of the week in an attempt to catch up. We missed seeing War Horse at the movies due to his crazy work hrs and a general lack of funds for luxuries right now. He has mentioned numerous times that he would LOVE to see this movie. As a stay at home mum I would love to be able to surprise him with a dvd of this movie - some much needed rest and relaxation would go down a treat methinks.

    Thank you.

  13. I love a good war movie too. I remember doing a project at school where I put myself in the shoes of a soldier and wrote poetry back to my wife at home. Not sure why as a Grade 9 kid I felt so connected to their stories. That feeling has stayed with me. Would love to see this.
