Her dancing days are drawing to a close

She always loved to dance, so we enrolled her in the local dance school at three and she loved it.

# Don't be fooled by that bunny outfit below, she just wasn't much of a tutu girl back then, being a Pirate floated her boat, so much more!

We're into our forth year, and I love that my girl loves to dance, only thing is, she doesn't love to dance anymore.

She's quit.

It's been a turbulent year on the dancing front, it's been hard as a mother to make the right call.

Paying fees, buying shoes, just letting her quit.

I didn't want to let her 'just quit', I wanted her to understand that I had spent money on this, that she had a commitment and that she needed to see the year out.

But I'm waiving the white flag and surrender.

Monday afternoons are tough, the pressure to race from school to dancing, there is just not enough love.

I believe in seeing things through, but have come to realise that as a child, you probably need to try your hand at a few different things before you truly find your fit.

Who knows what 2013 will bring.

But for now, term 4 will bring a break from Tap / Jazz / Ballet, a focus on Acrobatics only and a desire to chill out and enjoy the spring and forth coming summer.

Because life is too short and a child is too young to not be doing what they truly love.

What activities / sports do your children love?

Cheers

Mandy.

  1. I miss that my kids don't take dance class any more, but I don't miss the endless struggle to get to classes on time, the waiting around, the hair and makeup, costumes, concerts, dramas...

When their love for dance was beginning to fade, we compromised and saw out the term (having paid term fees) and now we love the possibility of free time to chill at home or hang out with friends.

That said, now between full time work and kids who do ice skating, ice hockey, soccer and cubs, there really isn't any free time at all. Of course AJ wants to add football or tennis to his must-do activity and Milla wants to do circus, dance, singing or drama. I just hope that if they do talk me into another cycle of activity madness that another local family will be involved so we can share the insanity.

    Enjoy having Monday afternoons back.

    1. Thanks I will enjoy the break, I'm sure it will be easily replaced with something else.

  3. Sounds like a good decision.Your daughter did look cute in all her costumes though. We only do swimming but had a break last term due to the "too hard" factor of a Canberra winter and a new baby.

  4. My boys are total sports freaks and I hate to admit they suck me in and I am forever forking out for this that and the other. I have actually tried to rein it in but then I feel guilty that I am stopping them from doing something they love that is healthy. At moment in our house between the 3 boys we do Karate, Soccer, Rugby Union, Touch Football, Basket ball and Nippers. breathe sonia breathe! x

  5. I think you made the right call. She still's so litte and has plenty of time to sort out what she likes to do and let's be honest it's a lot of effort if they are not into it. My miss 7 tried little Aths over summer and the early sat morning start was just not cutting it for her and I hated rushing her after a week at school. We did encourage her finish the season but she missed heaps throughout.
